NEW DESIGN SYSTEM FOR DATA SCIENCE INSTITUTE

The perennial challenge for brand professionals is the management of the many sub-brands and departments that proliferate within their organisations. Nowhere is this challenge more evident than in the Higher Education sector.

We’re no strangers to education clients with our history of working with some of the most significant institutions in the UK. And in every one of them, creation of sub-brands remains a contentious subject.

Imperial College needs little introduction and their Institute of Data Science is a major force in the space of data exploitation – a considerable growth sector fuelled by the rise of machine learning and AI.

Our task was to create a contemporary design system that would allow for the autonomous visual expression of the Institute whilst complying and complimenting Imperial’s own visual identity.

Inspired by the representation of complex analyses and the modelling of multiple data sources, we created a design system based on graphical shapes and the pleasing forms they generate when seemingly randomly combined.

The system is now fully implemented and being used across the board including in the 12m wide display suite that is the jewel in the crown of the facility set in the heart of the Knightsbridge campus.
